A house like this in Sedona would be great. It would also cost more and sit in a lot more traffic. Cottonwood is the practical version of the same trip.
Half an hour covers nearly everything you came for: red rock trailheads, a working wine region, a mining town stacked up a hillside, and a main street worth an afternoon. What the house adds is somewhere quiet to come back to — a pool, a kitchen you can actually cook in, and enough bedrooms that nobody draws the short straw.
Coffee outside before anyone else is up. Sedona trailheads are twenty minutes out — early enough to park.
Back for the pool while the kids burn off the hike. Or a slow loop through the Page Springs vineyards, twelve minutes down the road.
Cook dinner in a kitchen big enough for two people to work in. Finish in the hot tub or around the firepit.

Why Cottonwood
Sedona is the reason most people come to Northern Arizona, and it deserves the trip. It's also the busiest part of the valley — traffic through town backs up, and the popular trailhead lots fill early.
Twenty minutes down 89A, staying here generally costs less than the equivalent in Sedona, and the crowds become something you drive into in the morning and leave behind in the evening. You're also closer to the wineries and to Jerome than you would be from Sedona.

Groups
The layout works best when the group already knows each other. One great room keeps everyone in the same place at dinner; four bedrooms off it mean people can peel away when they've had enough.
There are two bathrooms for eleven guests, and one of them is inside the master suite. For two families or a multigenerational group used to sharing, that's rarely an issue. For eleven adults who all need to be out the door at the same time, it's a tighter fit — and we'd rather you knew that now than on the second morning.

Staying in Cottonwood generally costs less than the equivalent in Sedona, and it keeps you out of the busiest part of the valley in the evenings. Cottonwood is also closer to the Page Springs wineries and to Jerome than Sedona is, which helps if you're doing more than hiking.
